FAQ: City of Folsom Financial Challenges and Sales Tax Revenue
“What fiscal challenges is the City of Folsom currently facing? The City faces mounting infrastructure and building maintenance needs that lack a dedicated funding source. There is an estimated $20 million annual shortfall in funding for infrastructure improvements, park and facility repairs, equipment maintenance and replacements, trail maintenance and repairs, and staffing needs.
The five-year forecast predicts this structural deficit will grow as the cost of providing services outpaces revenue growth. A multimillion-dollar annual shortfall is projected by 2026.”

Being a Policy Maker, Not a Policy Taker
I was motivated by a TED talk – How to Be An Active Citizen and Spark Change by Gabriel Marmentini – and it really hit home about our community and reminded me why the residents are doing something special. Folsom Takes Action volunteers have talked to thousands of people and we have learned a ton. One phrase comes to mind in some circles – a “Zero Sum Mud Fight” – or just slinging mud without an exchange of ideas or trying to understand the issues and solutions while others are engaged and looking for answers, options and discussion.
